time to unpack, freshen up and enjoy a sumptuous meal. The remainder of
the day and evening is free to shop and sightsee on your own.
Day 3 - Athens & Cruise
Departure
In the morning we will begin by enjoying a
wonderful breakfast then taking a full tour of Athens. We will see the
places where Paul entered into discussions preaching Jesus and the
resurrection to the ancient Athenians. Mars Hill is nearby where Paul
was brought before the counsel so they could hear ore of the new
doctrine he was preaching. Other sites of interest include the Olympic
Stadium, Adrian's Arch, the Acropolis and Parthanon. This evening we
will board our ship for the Mediterranean cruise. We will overnight the
ship.
Day 4 - Santorini
This
morning we will stop at the island of Santorini. This is perhaps the
most breathtaking of all the Greek islands. The town with its
white-washed houses, narrow streets and open-air cafes clings to a steep
cliff accessible by cable-car or mule. In nearby Akrotiri recent
excavations support the theory Santorini might be the fabled lost
continent of Atlantis. In the afternoon we will return to the ship to
enjoy dinner as we cruise towards our next destination. We will
overnight on board.
Day 5 Egypt
In the
morning we will arrive at the ancient Egyptian port city of Alexandria.
This city was founded by Alexander the Great in 331 BC. It is Egypt's
center of culture, learning and science. The world's first lighthouse,
located here, was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. After a
full day in this glorious city we will re-board our ship to sail on and
overnight on board.
Day 6 - Israel
After
cruising the Eastern Mediterranean through the night we will arrive in
Israel (at the port of Ashdod). Here you have the option to take a day
tour of Jerusalem and Bethlehem. On that tour you will walk the Via
Dolorosa, the way of sorrows where Jesus carried his cross. Along this
tour also you can see the Western Wall, the Church of the Holy Sepulcher
and the Church of the Nativity. We return to the ship in the early
evening to continue our voyage.
Day 7 - Rhodes
We will
arrive midday at the Isle of Rhodes. This beautiful "Island of
roses" has a rich history. Here the ancient acropolis is dedicated
to the mythic goddess Athena and nearby is the bay where Paul landed
during his missionary journeys. Here also crusaders held the medieval
city of Rhodes until defeated by the Ottoman Turks who in turn held the
city for 400 years influencing its appearance with mosques, minarets and
a Turkish Bath. Boarding our ship in the early evening we depart for our
net destination.
Day 8 - Istanbul
At
midday we will arrive in our next port of call the Cosmopolitan city of
Istanbul, Turkey's jewel on the Bosporous. The blend of East and West in
this city has resulted in some of the most magnificent architecture in
the world including the Hagia Sofia and the Blue Mosque. At the Topkapi
museum the treasures of the Ottoman empire are on view. Bargain for your
own treasures in one of the Grand Bazaar's 5,000 shops. In the evening
rejoin the ship as we depart for our next destination.
Day 9 - Ephesus
In the
morning we will disembark on the Turkish mainland at the city of
Kusadasi. In this area you may tour the ruins of the famous biblical
city of Ephesus. Walk down rutted streets of marble through history
itself. See the library of Celsus and the great amphitheater where Paul
was arrested and cast out of the city. In the afternoon our ship departs
for the island of Mykonos. We arrive for an evening of sightseeing on
this quintessential Greek island. Hundreds of tiny chapels dot the
island and sheep graze in the shadow of white-washed windmills. Enjoy
the sunset over the picturesque harbor then return to the ship for
dinner and our final night on board as we sail back to Athens.
Day 10 - Corinth
This
morning we will arrive on the Greek mainland. We will depart by coach
for the city of Corinth. Shortly before arriving at the city we will
stop at the Corinthian Canal, a construction involving an excavation of
260 ft. in depth and done between 1882-1883. The engineering skill and
intellect of these people are evident in the water systems that still
flow from ancient to modern day. Wake along the stone streets where Paul
once walked as he nurtured this city's ancient church. We will return to
our hotel in Athens for the night.
Day 11 - Delphi
This
morning we will travel by coach to Delphi the ancient sanctuary of
Apollo. Here we can see the Temple of Apollo and Castalia Springs as
well as their marvelous museum, home of the world famous
"Charioteer" a bronze statue so delicate that you can even see
the individual eyelashes. We will then return to our hotel in Athens for
the night.
Day 12 - Homeward
This
morning we will depart for our return flight to the United States.
Having traveled through this area of Biblical renown you will most
certainly return refreshed and invigorated in spirit.
