Journey to Waimea Canyon

Including: Waimea Canyon is widely known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, and it is certainly offers more than just a view, it is an experience to treasure. On this excursion you will become acquainted with the charming southwestern shore and the incredible Waimea Canyon. Departing from the old port of Nawiliwili, you will drive through the island's main town of Lihue and pass by the beautiful area of Kauai known as Koloa, famous for its acres of sugar cane fields and the wide variety of tropical flowers. Continuing along the island's one main highway, you'll enjoy panoramic views of small villages such as OmaŽo, Kalaheo and Hanapepe, as well as Kauai's rugged landscape such as, "Queen Victoria's Profile" said to resemble the famed queen. Passing Hanapepe Bay, you will see the Old Russian Fort before arriving at the town of Waimea, located at the base of a canyon, the spot of Captain Cook's first landing in Hawaii. Drive up the canyon road towards the summit, where you will enjoy a short walk to the Kalalau Valley Lookout, located at an elevation of 4,122 feet. Your return drive to the Nawiliwili Harbor will be along the main coastal road.

Wailua River & The Fern Grotto

Including: Depart from the small harbor of Nawiliwili, while your guide introduces you to the main sights of Lihue Town. You'll drive up the main road, heading north along the dramatic coastline. The highlight of the tour will undoubtedly be your journey up the Wailua River. Upon arrival at the Wailua marina, your guide will direct you to your waiting motor launch to begin your journey up the river, a full narration will be given as to the many varieties of plant and wild life in the area. At the head of the river, you'll disembark for a brief walk to the Fern Grotto, a beautifully haunting cave, where you'll enjoy a serenade featuring the Hawaiian Wedding Song and understand why thousands of couples choose this as their ideal spot to get married. Heading back to the mouth of the Wailua River, you will board your motor coach to continue on short drive further north to the valley of the Sleeping Giant, name due to the resemblance of this mountain ridge to the body of a sleeping giant. A short walk will bring you to OpaekaŽa Falls, a splendid sight where the Wailua River makes a dramatic plunge over a high cliff. Your return drive to Nawiliwili, and your waiting ship, will be in a southerly direction along the main coastal road.

Waimea Canyon & Wailua River/Fern Grotto

Including: This excursion combines a visit to the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific" - 2,857-foot-deep Waimea Canyon - and a scenic ride up the Wailua River to Fern Grotto. Start with a drive to a lookout point at 3,400 feet. You will have an unsurpassed view of the canyon, filled with an array of rainbow colors created by the reds and browns of exposed volcanic rock and the blues and greens of lush tropical vegetation. Next, board a riverboat for a cruise up the Wailua River to Fern Grotto. The rock grotto forms a natural amphitheater with excellent acoustics, a fact you will appreciate when a Hawaiian choral group sings the Hawaiian Wedding Song for you. There will be a stop for lunch at the Kauai Coconut Beach.

The Hanalei Adventure

Including: Depart from the small harbor of Nawiliwili, passing through charming Lihue Town, for a drive in a northerly direction along the dramatic coastline. Pass the main resort area of the island and over the Wailua River, pausing near KapaŽa to turn inland on a small island road. Upon arrival to the OpaekaŽa Falls, you will stop and take a short walk to the falls overlook from where you'll enjoy the Wailua River's dramatic plunge over a high cliff. Continue on a scenic one-hour drive to the town of Hanalei, where you'll pause to stretch your legs and admire the view and serenity of this area. You'll drive by the famed Hanalei Bay, about which so many Hawaiian songs have been written. Continue along the coast through many of the small local towns and villages. A final stop will be at the Guava Kai Plantation, a true working plantation located in a picture perfect setting, where your hosts will kindly introduce you to their home and proudly show you the land in which this delicious fruit is grown.

The 360-degree panorama from the top of the crater is truly breathtaking. Jungle Mountain Trek & Wagon Ride

Including: Your unique day in Kauai will begin with a drive to Kipu Ranch, a fabulous 4,000-acre working cattle operation that spans terrain ranging from a riverside National Wildlife, refuge to spectacular volcanic mountaintops. You will participate in three different hikes, a total of four miles, and between hikes you will be transported from trailhead-to-trailhead by a covered farm wagon pulled by a John Deere four-wheel drive tractor. Each trek is conducted as a nature walk, through pristine tropical rain forests containing many interesting communities of plants, birds and aquatic life, native and introduced. You will walk through fern forests and flowering ginger to visit three different jungle waterfalls, each with it's own special character. You can dive into pools at the base of waterfalls cascading over black lava rock cliffs and swing on ropes tied to tree branches high above mountain pools. Or simply kick back and enjoy the quiet beauty. You'll drive to the summit of the magnificent Haupu Mountain range, where you'll enjoy a great picnic lunch overlooking miles of white-sand beaches and distant mountains from a birds-eye view. While traversing Kipu Ranch by covered wagon, you might have an opportunity to see wild boar, peacocks and other exotic birds. The area is full of legends and your guide will share exciting stories about the supernatural inhabitants of the valley in days gone by.

Poipu Bike & Snorkel

Including: Bike, snorkel and explore one of the Kauai's most beautiful coastal areas. This is an active natural history tour that gets you outdoors and interacting with Kauai's wilderness. Your day of adventure begins with a short scenic van ride from the ship's dock to Poipu at southern coast of Kaua'i, where you will be given a bike and safety information before heading out on your five-mile ride. You will be stopping at some of the best points of interest including the Spouting Horn, a former whaling port and the village where Prince Kuhio was born. Special emphasis will be placed on local history and the identification and discussion of native plants, birds and aquatic life. After biking, you will set out to Poipu Beach Park rated one of the nation's best. There you will enjoy a local-style Bento lunch with cold beverages. You'll get a snorkeling lesson and be free to swim and snorkel on the reef. You will have a chance to dry off before returning to the ship.

Waterfall Hiking Excursion

Including: Explore and hike on exclusive private land on the beautiful North Shore of Kaua'i. You will be able to hike through lush native flora and fauna and swim in a picturesque waterfall. Begin with a narrated drive to the Princeville Ranch near the famous Hanalei Bay. Your moderate four-hour tour begins with a hike to the ranch lookout point where a breathtaking 360-degree view awaits you. Green, lush mountains, crystal blue ocean, some of the most spectacular views of the entire North Shore. Trekking onward, a short hike through pasturelands leads you into lush tropical paradise. Learn about the native and introduced plants as you descend to a beautiful cascading 100-foot waterfall. There you can swim, take pictures under the falls, relax and enjoy the scenery and a delicious lunch before heading back to the ranch and your ship. Hule'ia River Kayak Adventure

Including: Kayak down the Hule'ia, a beautiful and historic jungle stream, site of films such as Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurassic Park and Lost World. It's a delightful 45-minute downwind paddle, about two miles in length. Your kayaking adventure begins with a short drive to the Nawiliwili Small Boat Harbor. You will go through the Hule'ia National Wildlife Refuge, a place for the preservation of endangered Hawaiian water birds. You will also paddle pass the Alakoko (Menehune) Fishpond, a living archaeological site. The backdrop to all this fun is the magnificent Ha'upu Mountain Range. After paddling downwind you will leave your kayaks behind and set out on a œ-mile round trip guided nature walk through a pristine tropical rain forest. Your destination will be a 'secret place', where you will have snacks and cold drinks and enjoy the scenery before heading down to the river for a relaxing trip back in a double-hulled powered Hawaiian canoe to your awaiting van and your return drive to the ship.

River Kayak and Hiking Adventure 

Duration: 2 1/2 hours

Including: This is a great trip for almost everyone. You'll meet your guide for a safety briefing, he'll fit you with the proper gear and instruct you on kayak techniques. You'll paddle down the Hulei'a River for a little over an hour, while your experienced guide shares information about the history of the legendary Menehune Fishpond located in the Hulei'a National Wildlife Refuge, as he points out some of the flora and fauna of the area. You'll stop for locally baked cookies and fresh fruit juice before continuing on a short hike through a lush tropical forest, full of interesting plants. As you exit the forest, an air-conditioned van will be awaiting to drive you back to the starting point. Along the way, relax and enjoy the view not visible from the river. 

Note: Comfortable clothing is recommended shoes that you don't mind getting wet or muddy, sunscreen, sunglasses and hat. Participants should be in good health, able to stand and walk on uneven surfaces. Must be over three years of age and not weigh over 265 pounds.

Napali Explorer 

Duration: 7 hours

Including: Board the 48-foot adventure raft, the Napali Explorer, for a memorable journey along Kauai's majestic NaPali Coast. Cruise past Polihale State Park to NaPali's majestic towering sea cliffs and hanging valleys. Sea Fun Beach Snorkel

Including: This is a beach trip that is very personalized and great for all levels of swimmers. The snorkeling site, in calm water inside a reef, will be chosen based on daily ocean and weather conditions. After being outfitted with equipment, including wetsuits, you will receive full instructions and begin snorkeling in a protected area with no more than six persons per guide. Your guides are marine life experts and will tell you about the fish and coral you see. You may even have a chance to encounter green sea turtles. Drinks and snacks are provided.
