Day 1: Portland Rose Gardens
We board our morning flight to the Great Northwest arriving in Portland,
Oregon by early afternoon. Our sightseeing begins with a guided tour of
the beautiful city of Portland to include the International Rose Test
Garden and Pittock Mansion. Dinner tonight is at our hotel in Portland.
Day 2: Oregon Trail
We continue our guided tour of Portland with stops at the Nob Hill
District, Old Town & Chinatown. We conclude our day at the end of the
Oregon Trail Interpretive Center. Here we find artifacts and displays
recalling the difficult journey over the Oregan Trail made by over 300,000
pioneers.
Day 3: Columbia River Gorge
Our journey through Oregon's spectacular scenery begins with a drive along
the Columbia River Highway giving way to views of rugged cliffs and
waterfalls. The tallest falls is Multnomah, cascading 620 feet. We also
stop at the Bonneville Dam and Lock to see the salmon ladders before
continuing closer to Mount Hood, the highest point in Oregon, with its
snow-capped peak ascending 11,239 feet above the surrounding forest
greenery. Following lunch at the historic Timberline Lodge, there's time
to relax and soak in this splendid view before we travel on to our lodging
in Bend.
Day 4: Crater Lake
This morning we travel south into the Deschutes National Forest to Lava
Butte, one of over 400 cinder cones formed by volcanic eruptions. We
continue on our southern route to Crater Lake National Park. As we travel
Rim Drive, enjoy fantastic views of the bright blue water of the nation's
deepest lake. A delicious lunch awaits us at Crater Lake Lodge serenely
set on lake's shore. Continue to our lodging in Grants Pass. Later this
afternoon we board our jetboat for an exciting ride on the Rogue River
between the shear rock walls of Hellgate Canyon. We are treated to a tasty
cookout at OK Corral before we return to Grants Pass.
Day 5: Oregon Sand Dunes
This morning we travel north and then west to the Pacific Coast arriving
at the Oregon Dunes National Recreational Area where we find sand dunes of
incredible proportions, some of which reach the height of 300 feet. After
a time to explore this area, we travel north along the peaceful beauty of
Oregon's coastline landscaped with cliffs, bluffs, and beaches. This
afternoon we visit Sea Lions Cave, the largest sea-cave which allows a
fascinating view of the Stellar Sea Lions in their natural habitat. Our
lodging tonight is in Newport.
Day 6: Oregon Coast Aquarium
We begin with a visit to the Oregon Coast Aquarium where seals, sea lions,
puffins, otters and other marine life make their home. Next we explore
Newports historic bayfront with its galleries, shops and murals. This
afternoon we travel to Yaquina Head Natural Area, which allows one of the
