SPRINGTIME IN MYRTLE BEACH

April, May, September, October

Day 1 – South Carolina Bound
An early morning departure to head south to Myrtle Beach.  We will overnight and have dinner at our North Carolina hotel this evening before reaching our final destination tomorrow.

Day 2 – Brookgreen Gardens
Enjoy a hearty breakfast at our hotel before departing for a morning arrival in Myrtle Beach where we will be greeted by our Myrtle Beach tour guide.  Our first visit will be to Brookgreen Gardens with a narrated tour of America’s first public sculpture garden and still the largest outdoor figurative sculpture collection with over 535 impressive works representing American artists.  This landscaped garden contains a magnificent avenue of 225-year-old moss draped live oaks.  En route to the gardens, our guide will share with us the history of Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand area.  Our exciting day continues at Broadway at the Beach – an enticing venue of specialty shops and unique restaurants surrounding a serene lake.  Miniature golf, paddle boats, a 16 screen cinema and the IMAX Theater are also part of this huge complex.  Time to check-in to our beachfront hotel before heading off to Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede.  Enjoy a fabulous four-course feast while watching magnificent horses and top-notch riders perform daring feats of trick and competitive riding.

Day 3 – A Day in Charleston
The town of Charleston epitomizes the way of life in the Old South and today, we have the opportunity to enjoy this easygoing and elegant life.  Cruise to Forth Sumter where the first shots of the Civil War were fired and view the remains of the fort and take a walk through the museum.  Lunch is on our own in the historic Marketplace area where we can browse the booths of the open air market or walk the narrow streets to cafes, gift shops, and galleries.  Next, sit back and enjoy an Old South Carriage Tour as our driver narrates the history of Charleston to the rhythmic pace of hoofbeats.  Our tour to this Southern bastion is complete as we visit the Lowndes Grove Plantation and enjoy afternoon tea with finger sandwiches and sweets.  We return to Myrtle Beach for our evening dinner and a performance of the Spirit of the Dance at the Palace Theater.  This heart-pounding performance of Irish Dance combines with Latino rhythms, dynamic lighting, and dazzling costumes to create a spectacular show.

Day 4 – Carolina Jamboree
Time will be available this morning for breakfast and a stroll along the beach before checking out of our hotel.  Travel to the Palace Theater this morning for the Carolina Jamboree morning show.  New for 2004 will be “A Tribute to the Rat Pack” and “A Tribute to the Glenn Miller Orchestra.”   Relive the era and perhaps even dance on stage.  Departing Myrtle Beach, we travel along the coast to Wilmington for a tour of the Battleship North Carolina.  Commissioned in 1941, this ship served in every major naval offensive in the Pacific in W.W. II and exhibits the naval experiences of its crew members.  Continue on to our hotel destination in North Carolina for the evening.

Day 5 – Homeward Bound
After our breakfast at the hotel, we depart with fond memories of the Low Country with our return home by this evening.
