Day 1 -
Arrive in Charleston, South Carolina
Welcome to Charleston, widely regarded as the most beautiful and historic
city in America; a place where delightful southern breezes and cobblestone
streets pave the way to gracious living and warm hospitality. Tonight,
explore the city at your leisure.
Day 2
- Charleston
The morning begins with a guided tour of Charleston. History comes
alive as we walk along quaint cobblestone streets lined with antebellum
homes and hear the stories of those who founded Charleston. See the Old
Market and Exchange and visit the famous "Battery at the
Harbor," which overlooks Fort Sumter. It was here, in April of 1861,
that the first shot of the Civil War was fired. The afternoon is at your
leisure to enjoy the quaint city. This evening, your Tour Manager will
host a dinner cruise on Charleston harbor. Enjoy a delicious meal as you
cruise by the city's many historic landmarks. (Breakfast and dinner)
Day 3
– Charleston to Jekyll Island
After a leisurely morning in Charleston we depart for Jekyll Island, one
of Georgia's Golden Isles. Our first stop is Beaufort, a charming southern
town boasting numerous antebellum homes. Your afternoon is free to explore
the Jekyll Island Club Hotel, our home for the next two nights. This is
where the Rockefellers and Vanderbilts once stayed. Explore the grounds or
take one of the historic trolley tours of the area. (Breakfast and dinner)
Day 4
– Jekyll Island Touring
This morning we tour the island with a local guide. Hear the history and
folklore of those who have lived here. We'll then journey to the largest
of The Golden Isles, St. Simons Island. Our tour of the village includes
Fort Fredrica National Monument, the 200-year-old lighthouse and the
hauntingly beautiful Christ Church. This afternoon is free to explore
before returning to Jekyll Island for dinner at our hotel. (Breakfast and
dinner)
Day 5
– Savannah
After breakfast, we travel to Savannah, the grand dame of the South.
Discover why General Sherman found this city much too beautiful to burn
during the Civil War. A local guide tells us the tales and secrets of the
stately mansions. Tour the historic district and see the home of Juliette
Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts. Keep a sharp eye out because we
also pass the square where scenes from Forrest Gump were filmed and see
places made famous in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. The
remainder of the day is free for you to enjoy Savannah at your own pace.
(Breakfast)
Day 6
– Hilton Head Island
Today we visit Hilton Head Island, one of South Carolina's exquisite
jewels. A guided tour will give you insight into its fascinating early
history, from its role in the Civil War to its development into one of the
premier resort communities of the world. You will visit the famous Sea
Pines Plantation and Harbor Town, with its many unique shops,
restaurants, picturesque harbor and landmark lighthouse. This evening,
join your fellow travelers for a farewell dinner at one of Savannah's
