Day
2: Halifax
•
Cape Breton Island
We tour the interesting city of Halifax this morning, seeing the
historic waterfront and learning about Halifax's connection with the
Titanic disaster. Then we travel to Cape Breton Island, originally
settled by Loyalists from New York State. They were followed by Scottish
immigrants, choosing this region because it reminded them of their
homelands. We'll also visit the Alexander Graham Bell Museum overlooking
sparkling Bras d'Or Lake. There is a two night stay in Baddeck.
(Breakfast and dinner)
Day
3: Cabot Trail
Spectacular scenery is the highlight today as you travel along the Cabot
Trail. We'll spend the day exploring much of this famed road in Cape
Breton Highlands National Park, which winds through charming
communities, breathtaking scenery, local crafts and delicious seafood
dining. A visit to Cape Breton is sure to thrill you. Its only rival in
beauty is the seaside French and Scottish settlements nestled below the
mountains resembling the highlands of Scotland. We'll enjoy a relaxing
picnic lunch along the way as we experience the scenic nooks and
crannies of this remarkable landscape. (Breakfast and lunch)
Day
4: Prince Edward Island
We leave Nova Scotia today and take a ferry to Prince Edward Island,
home of Lucy Maud Montgomery, who wrote Anne of Green Gables. This
evening we enjoy a musical performance at the Confederation Center for
the Arts. Our two night stay on Prince Edward Island gives us ample time
to explore this quaint part of Canada. (Breakfast and dinner)
Day
5: Charlottetown Touring
Today we begin with a tour of Charlottetown, a city whose core has not
changed since it was settled by the French, Scottish, English and Irish.
A visit to the Anne of Green Gables home is one of the highlights of
your day. There is a visit to Founder's Hall - where you travel through
a "Time Tunnel" and are transported back in time to witness
the birth of the Canadian Confederation. Your tour of the island offers
many other delightful opportunities including exploring marvelous
beaches and woodlands. This evening savor the local cuisine with a tasty
lobster dinner. (Breakfast and dinner)
Day
6: New Brunswick
After breakfast, we leave Prince Edward Island via the new
nine-mile-long Confederation Bridge. Enjoy breathtaking views as we
drive through Fundy National Park and learn about the unique tidal
experience of the Bay of Fundy when we see Hopewell Rocks. We overnight
in St. John's. (Breakfast)
Day
7: St. John
•
Halifax
St. John, at the mouth of the Saint John River on the Bay of Fundy, is
one of the most active seaports on the Atlantic coast. This morning we
enjoy a tour of the area and learn of its seaport history, including the
restoration of the city's waterfront. This afternoon we head for the
historic village of Peggy's Cove, located near St. Margaret's Bay. The
village was founded in 1811, and takes its name from the sole survivor
of a catastrophic shipwreck just off its shores. Peggy's Cove is home to
a protected bird sanctuary and a nesting site for Atlantic Puffins, and
is also a prime whale and dolphin watching area. And you can't miss the
Peggy's Cove Lighthouse, one of Nova Scotia's most famous icons. Back to
Halifax and a farewell dinner with new-found friends. (Breakfast and
dinner)
