Day 1:
Arrive in Washington, DC
This is truly the All-American Holiday, complete with the heritage of
our nation's capitol and the historic charm of Williamsburg. Tonight we
gather with our travel companions and enjoy a welcome dinner hosted by
our Tour Manager.
Day 2:
Washington, DC Touring
History is being made every day in Washington, DC. We'll visit the White
House or the Capitol Building where laws are created. On Capitol Hill
we'll visit the Library of Congress and the Supreme Court. See the
stirring Jefferson, Lincoln, Korean, Vietnam and the FDR Memorials. The
afternoon is your to freely explore the Smithsonian with its treasury of
American history. An Illumination Tour of the memorials and monuments
tops off our exiting day. (B)
Day 3:
Washington DC, Mount Vernon & Charlottesville
Sightseeing of our nation's capitol continues with a visit to Arlington
National Cemetery and the John F. Kennedy memorial. View the Changing of
the Guard of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the new Women in
Military Service Memorial. As we depart Washington, DC, we visit Mount
Vernon, the estate of George and Martha Washington. A walking tour of
the home and grounds provides a step back in time. After a great day of
touring we stay the night in Charlottesville, Virginia. (B,D)
Day 4:
Monticello & Michie Tavern
This morning we visit Monticello, the magnificent home of Thomas
Jefferson, which many consider to be one of the most beautiful estates
in Virginia. We then enjoy lunch and a tour of Michie Tavern. Welcoming
wearied travelers since the 18th century, Michie Taverns offers hearty
meals made from homemade recipes, and a friendly atmosphere in which to
gather and socialize. Traveling south, we reach Williamsburg in the late
afternoon. (B,L)
Day 5: Colonial
Williamsburg
Colonial Williamsburg is the largest living history museum in the
country and one of America's most popular attractions. Stroll streets
dating back to the 1700's. Converse with residents playing the roles of
their ancestors exactly as they did more than 200 years ago. It's an
exciting glimpse into the early days of our nation. A traditional tavern
dinner sets the mood for our stay in historic Williamsburg. (B,D)
Day 6: Colonial
Williamsburg & Charter's Grove
This morning we tour historic Carter's Grove, home to Carter Burwell,
grandson of wealthy Virginia planter Robert "King" Carter.
After its renovation, it has become known as "the most beautiful
house in America." The afternoon is left free for you to explore
more of Williamsburg. Tonight your Tour Manager hosts a farewell dinner
for new friends with shared memories of our national heritage. (D)
Day 7:
Williamsburg & Home
As we travel back to Washington DC, we take a driving tour through
historic Alexandria on the way to the airport for flights home after 2
p.m. from Washington Reagan National Airport.
