1:
Arrive Boston
Fly to Providence or Boston via your airline of choice.
Regardless of the airport utilized, it's an easy drive to our home
for two nights in the near northern suburbs of Boston, the fine
AmeriSuites Hotel- Medford. Orientation
sightseeing (time permitting) and a delicious "welcome" dinner
round out the day. (D)

2: Boston
Lexington & Concord Cambridge Freedom Trail
A full day of guided sightseeing in the Boston area begins with the
storied battlefields of Lexington and Concord, where the "shot was
fired heard 'round the world," beginning the American Revolution.
Here also are the homes of great American authors.
Next we'll visit Cambridge, home of Harvard University and M.I.T.,
before we follow the Freedom Trail to such sights as the Massachusetts
State House, Boston Common, Beacon Hill, Faneuil Hall, Quincy Market, Old
North Church, the U.S.S. Constitution ("Old Ironside") and
Bunker Hill. (CB, D)

3: Main
York Ogunquit Kennebunkport Freeport
Heading for the Maine coast, we'll pause en route for a guided tour
of the old shipbuilding community of Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Arriving in Maine, we're sure to enjoy traveling through such
quaint communities as York Beach, Ogunquit, and Kennebunkport, then
pausing to view the storied Portland Head Light.
We'll have time this afternoon for shopping at famed L.L. Bean and
surrounding outlets in Freeport, then check in for the next two nights in
Augusta at the Best Western Senator Inn.

4: Belfast
Searsport Bucksport Bar Harbor
Today's itinerary offers a full-day trip via Belfast, Searsport,
Bucksport and Ellsworth to the resort community of Bar Harbor and
magnificent Acadia National Park, including a trip to the top of Cadillac
Mountain, highest point on the U.S. Atlantic Coast.
En route back to Augusta, we'll savor a traditional Maine lobster
feast overlooking Belfast Harbor and Penobscot Bay.

5: White Mountains
Conway Crawford Notch Mt. Washington
Vermont
Great sightseeing and splendid fall foliage in the White Mountains of New
Hampshire highlight our itinerary today.
We'll see North Conway, Crawford Notch, Mount Washington, and the
attractions of Franconia Notch. . .the "Old Man of the
Mountain," the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway and The Basin.
Entering
Vermont, we'll also visit the Maple Grove Maple Museum and Old Sugar House
to learn the time- honored maple sugaring process.
Late this afternoon, we'll be checking in for an overnight stay at
the fine Comfort Inn at Maplewood in Montpelier, Vermont.

6: Vermont
Shelburne Museum Rutland
A full day in the Green Mountain State of Vermont begins with touring in
the lovely Waterbury/Stowe area, including such sights as Ben &
Jerry's Ice Cream Factory, the Cold Hollow Cider Mill, Cabot Cheese
Factory, and the picturesque mountain village of Stowe itself.
The afternoon spotlights the splendid Shelburne Museum, Vermont's
remarkable exhibition of early New England life filled with unique
collections of Americana. Continuing
on to Rutland, we'll be guests for two nights of the Best Western Inn and
Suites. (CB, D)

7: Quechee Gorge State Park
Woodstock Coolidge Homestead
Another full day of touring comes complete with the beautiful fall colors
of Southern Vermont's Green Mountains, and includes such sights as the
fascinating Vermont Marble Exhibit in Proctor, impressive Quechee Gorge
State Park, the quaint village of Woodstock, the President Coolidge
Homestead at Plymouth, and the Vermont Country Store in Weston.
Tonight's special treat is dinner at the Summit Lodge.

8: Manchester
Bennington Museum Mohawk Trail Yankee Candle
Co.
Heading south to Manchester, where a tour is scheduled at Hildene,
the splendid Vermont mansion of Robert Todd Lincoln, son of the 16th
President. Next, we'll pause to explore the Bennington Museum, renowned
for its collection of the paintings of folk artist Grandma Moses.
Returning to Massachusetts this afternoon, we'll follow the scenic
Mohawk Trail and visit the Yankee Candle Company factory complex in South
Deerfield. We'll spend the
night in Sturbridge at the Holiday Inn-Expressm and enjoy our
"farewell" dinner nearby at the Public House.

9: Old Sturbridge Village
Departure Home
Our final morning's sightseeing features Old Sturbridge Village,
New England's great re-creation of an early 1800's farming community,
complete with 40 original homes and shops where costumed interpreters and
craftsmen demonstrate the lifestyle of their forefathers.
This afternoon we'll board our return flight at Providence or
Boston, filled with memories of New England!
