Day Tour
Day 1 – Jackson Hole
We depart on our
morning flight to Jackson, Wyoming. Upon arrival, we’ll have some free
time to take in this scenic town. Transfer to Yellowstone and our
lodging for the next two nights, the Old Faithful Snowlodge. This is
the newest lodge in Yellowstone, and its timber and log construction
blends in perfectly with the rustic feeling of the other buildings
around the park.
Day 2 – Yellowstone
Today we will enjoy a guided tour of Yellowstone Park. The park is home
to many species of wildlife, including grizzly and black bears, moose,
elk, bison, wolves, coyotes, bighorn sheep, pronghorns (fastest land
animal in US), and deer. There will be some free time following the
tour to explore the many wonders of the Old Faithful area on your own.
Some areas of interest nearby include: West Thumb Geyser Basin, Lower
Geyser Basin and the Fountain Paint Pots, and Yellowstone Lake, which is
the largest high altitude lake in the lower 48 states.
Day 3 – Great Salt Lake
This morning we depart Wyoming, travel through Idaho and southward into
Utah. We’ll have a brief opportunity to view some of the sights of Salt
Lake City where big city meets alpine resort. Our lodging this evening
will be in Richfield, Utah.
Day 4 – Bryce & Zion National
Parks
Today we explore the Grand Staircase, a portion of the Colorado Plateau
comprised of a series of colorful cliffs. Our first stop is in Bryce
Canyon National Park, known for its unique geology. Erosion has formed
the limestone rocks in this park into a multitude of bizarre shapes.
The area is renowned for having some of the world’s best air quality,
and boasts views of three states and approaching 200 miles of
visibility. The bottom layer of rock at Bryce Canyon is the top layer
of rock at our next destination, Zion National Park. Characterized by
high plateaus and deep sandstone canyons, the park is best known for
Zion Canyon. It is here that a spectacular gorge was formed by the
North Fork of the Virgin River, with canyon walls rising to 3,000 feet.
Our lodging for the next two nights will be in Page, Arizona, home of
the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell.
Day 5 – Grand Canyon
Our day today will be
spent at one of the most awe-inspiring places in the United States- The
Grand Canyon. The south rim of the canyon averages 7,000 ft. above sea
level. Immerse yourself in the sense of wonder provided by this grand
spectacle.
Day 6 – Mesa Verde
Journey to Colorado today and experience the “green table” – Mesa
Verde. This national park offers wonderful views of the Four Corners
from Park Point, as well as the opportunity to visit the ancient cliff
dwellings built into the alcoves of the canyon walls. Our lodging for
the next two nights will be in Durango.
Day 7 – Durango Silverton
Railroad
Depart on a historic journey aboard the Durango Silverton Railroad
today. Construction began on the railroad in 1881 and was finished in
Silverton 9 months later. The historic train has been in continuous
operation for 123 years, and provides its passengers with a truly
precious view as it winds along the Animas River from Durango to the old
fashioned western town of Silverton.
Day 8 – Colorado Springs
We travel today to Colorado Springs, where we’ll visit the Focus on The
Family Welcome Center and Bookstore. From there we’ll head to the
Garden of The Gods - a collection of towering sandstone rock formations
with a backdrop provided by Pikes Peak. Our lodging for the next two
nights will be in Denver.
Day 9 – Rocky Mountain National
Park
The day will be spent visiting Rocky Mountain National Park, a living
showcase to the splendor of the Rocky Mountains. This park contains
over 60 peaks at 12,000 ft. above sea level or higher, the tallest of
which is Longs Peak at 14,259 ft. It is also home to the highest
continuous paved road in the United States, Trail Ridge Road, which tops
out at 12,183 ft.
