Day 1: Departure
We start our adventure as we fly into Anchorage, Alaska. Upon arrival, we
are met by our tour guide and transfer to our hotel in Anchorage where we
overnight. Dinner is on your own.
Day 2: Valdez
After breakfast, we board our motorcoach to travel to Valdez. See the
amazing, monster vegetables grown in 24 hour daylight as we drive through
the Matanuska Valley. Experience the beauty of Alaska as we visit
Worthington Glacier. Tonight we meet our fellow traveling companions at a
gala welcome dinner. Overnight in Valdez.
Day 3: Prince William Sound and Columbia
Glacier
We enjoy a continental breakfast this morning before cruising through the
breathtaking Prince William Sound where we will visit the massive face of
a three-mile piece of ice known as the Columbia Glacier. Lunch is
included. Keep your camera handy in case we see a passing seal, sea lion,
otter, bald eagle, whale, dolphin, or puffin. Dinner is on your own
tonight as we overnight in Valdez.
Day 4: Fairbanks
After our continental breakfast, a full day of sightseeing is planned for
us today as we drive north to Fairbanks. Sights along the way include the
Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, the largest park in the US, and the
Trans-Alaska Pipeline that runs 800 miles from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez.
Dinner is on your own tonight as we spend the night in Fairbanks.
Day 5: Riverboat Discovery III
After another delicious breakfast at the hotel, we enjoy a tour of the
gold mining town of Fairbanks. We then board the grand stern-wheeler
Riverboat Discovery III for a cruise on the Chena River. An optional
evening tour to Alaska Land and Samon Bake is available for those who want
to continue exploring this evening. Overnight in Fairbanks and have dinner
on your own.
Day 6: Denali National Park
This morning we travel south along the Parks Highway to Denali National
Park, stopping in the rural community of Nenana along the way. Our
afternoon and evening are free to enjoy the many activities that Denali
holds: rafting, sightseeing, helicopter tours, hiking, Park Service
programs, or the Denali Dinner Theater. Overnight in Denali.
Day 7: Tundra Wildlife Tour
Enjoy free time this morning to sleep in or explore Denali on your own.
This afternoon, we will take a tundra wildlife tour deep into the national
park. Keep your eyes open for bear, moose, caribou, and sheep. A snack box
dinner will be provided. Overnight in Denali.
Day 8: Alaska Railroad and Mt. McKinley
The morning is free to do as we please. Then, this afternoon, we will
board the famous Alaska Railroad for a trip from Denali to Anchorage. Take
in the breathtaking scenery as we travel along the Susilna River. We may
even catch a glimpse of the majestic Mt. McKinley. Overnight accommodation
is in Anchorage where you may choose one of the many interesting
restaurants for dinner on your own.
Day 9: Anchorage
After breakfast at the hotel, we will have a brief city tour of Anchorage
which includes a visit to the new Alaska Native Heritage Center. The
remainder of the day is free to relax or explore the beautiful area before
our delicious farewell banquet at the hotel.
Day 10: Home
Our Alaskan tour comes to an end today as we leave the land of glaciers
and travel home.
