Day 1 Arrival In
Denmark
A warm welcome awaits you as we arrive in Copenhagen. Your day is at
leisure to explore the pedestrian street "Stroget" for shopping
and sightseeing. Tonight you will meet the tour manager for a welcome
dinner party at Tivoli Gardens and briefing for the days ahead.
Day 2 Copenhagen
Your morning begins with a tour to the Royal Residence, Amalienborg,
Christianborg Palace and waterside to the Little Mermaid statue. Your
afternoon is free to visit some of Copenhagen's fashionable shops where
you could purchase Royal Copenhagen porcelain or some fine Georg Jensen
jewelry. You may enjoy a tour through Copenhagen's art museums.
Day 3 Copenhagen-Stockholm
This morning you will visit the Louisiana Museum, then you will leave on a
short flight aboard SAS Airlines to Stockholm. You will arrive in the
beautiful city of Stockholm, Sweden and transfer to your hotel for an
afternoon on your own to enjoy the sights and sounds of elegant Stockholm.
Day 4 Stockholm
Your sightseeing tour begins with the modern City Hall which is the
setting for the annual Nobel Prize banquet. Take a walk down the
cobblestone streets of the Old Town with its 17th and 18th century homes
and midieval masterpieces of the Storkyrkan (Coronation Church). Your
dinner will be at a popular Swedish restaurant this evening.
Day 5 Gripsholm-Uppsala
Today you will spend time in the Swedish countryside. With a visit to
Gripsholm Castle, the finest Renaissance Castle in Sweden. Travel on to
lunch at Ulvhalls Herrgard, dating back to 1782. This afternoon you will
enjoy Uppsala one of the most fascinating cities in Europe including the
Viking burial grounds the cathedral castle and the home of Carl von
Linneus. You will then return to Stockholm.
Day 6 Stockholm-Oslo
Breakfast will be leisurley before you board the flight from Stockholm to
Oslo the Viking Capital.
Day 7 Oslo-Viking
Ships
Your day will be spent at the head of the fjord in the Viking Capital. The
morning tour highlights the city including Vigeland Sculpture Park, the
Viking Ships so unbelievably preserved. You will also see the Holmenkollen
Ski Jump. You afternoon is at your leisure to do some last minute shopping
or sightseeing. This evening you will bid farewell to you new Scandinavian
friends while having dinner at the hotel.
Day 8 Oslo-Voringsfossen-Stalheim
After breakfast you will depart from your hotel at 8:30am. The tour will
drive north through the Hallingdal Valley and past the clear Nordic lakes.
Post-lunch continue west through the picturesque Norwegian countryside and
across the Hardanger Mountain range with dramatic scenery of the Mabo
Valley. Then you will board the "Troll Trolley" and view the
Voringsfossen, one of Norway's largest waterfall. Your expedition
continues across the Hardangerfjord and along its shoreline to Voss. Late
in the afternoon you will arrive at the Stalheim Hotel, famous for its
location. The evening consists of dinner followed by a program of
Norwegian Folk dancing and music.
Day 9 Stalheim-Sogenfjord-Balestrand
After a hearty breakfast smorgesbord you are off to Stalheim Canyon Road
which will twist through hairpin turns and spirals with a spectacular view
of the Naeroy Valley and the fjords below. At Gudvangen you will board ou
Viking fjord cruiser and sail along the Naeroy and Aurlands fjords, carved
by ice glaciers from the mountains on either side. You are cruising by one
of the largest and most magnificent fjords, stopping first at the fjord
village of Vik dating back to the 17th century. Visit the Hopperstad Stave
Church. After lunch you will sail into remote Finnafjord to Finden to
visit a farm. As the waterfalls splash into the afternoon sun you will
sail across Sognefjord to Balestrand. Dinner and overnight at the Kvikne's
hotel.
Day 10 Balestrand-Fjaerlandsfjord-Glacier Center-Skei-Balestrand
Still sailing the fjords, silently through Fjaerlandsfjord under the
mighty Jostedal Glacier, Europe's largest. Disembark in the small village
of Fjaerland to visit the Norwegian Glacier Center. After lunch return to
Fjaerlandsfjord and Balestrand for dinner and hotel.
Day 11 Balestrand-Aurlandsfjord-Flaam-Myrdal-Bergen
You continue sailing across the Sognefjord into Aurlandsfjord. A smorgasbord
lunch is included as you continue to Flaam. Here we board the
famous Flaam railroad for a truly unique experience. This little train
rises 2,600 feet on the 12 miles to Myrdal. Here you will join the
Bergen-Oslo railroad for the trip to Bergen. Overnight at the Radisson SAS
Norge Hotel.
Day 12 Bergen
See the beautiful town of Bergen, surrounded by seven mountains. Visit
Bryggen, with its wooden buildings dating many centuries and to "Troldhaugen",
home of Norway's composer, Edvard Grieg. This evening say farewell to your
new Scandinavian friends during dinner.
Day 13 Bergen-USA
Depart Scandinavia for return to the USA.
Price includes: Deluxe motorcoach transportation, first class hotel
accommodations (12 nights), Scandinavian breakfast daily, 5 luncheons, and
7 dinners. Sightseeing per itinerary, English speaking
escort throughout, hotel service charges and baggage handling.
