An exciting day lies ahead of us, beginning with a guided tour of the Vatican and the breathtaking Sistine Chapel. We will see St. Peter's and we will continue on with the Colosseum and the Forum.
Enjoy the different landmarks of this fascinating city and particularly the taste of the Italian cuisine. Dinner at the hotel tonight and the rest of the evening is yours.
Day 4: Assissi
This morning we leave for the city of Assissi. The city is prettily spread across the slopes of Monte Subasio and well known for its Basilica; two superimposed churches, resting on a series of immense churches. You will see the lower and upper basilica, the Medieval castle, and the Piazza del Comune (a lovely square with attractive fountains). We return to our hotel in Rome for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Pompeii
Departure this morning for Pompeii. This sumptuous town which was buried in AD 79 by one of the most disastrous volcanic eruptions, provides first-class evidence of the ancient way of life. The extensive and varied of this dead city, in its attractive setting, movingly evoke on a grand scale a Roman city at the time of the empire. We will visit the excavations. You will be impressed by the Basilica of Justice, the Temple of Apollo and the temple of Jupiter. This is a must see while you are in Italy. Dinner and overnight is in Naples tonight.
Day 6: Naples
After breakfast we are on for a full day tour of Naples. The beauty of this city has been praised by innumerable travelers. A lovely bay, a horizon bounded by the islands, the Sorrento Peninsula…all contribute to the fame of this favoured spot. Our guide will take us for a tour and we will enjoy seeing New Castle, St. Charles Theatre, and Piazza del Plebiscito. Dinner and overnight will be in Naples.
Day 7: Capri
You cannot go to Italy without visiting one of its islands. Capri, the island of Dreams, has always enchanted visitors with its situation in close proximity to the Sorrento Peninsula, the incomparable beauty of its rugged landscape, the mildness of its climate and the luxuriance of its vegetation. Capri captivated two Roman emperors: Augustus exchanged Ischia for Capri and Tiberius spent the latter part of his life here. Since the late 19th century, the island has attracted numerous celebrities: artists, writers, musicians and actors, in all seasons. Capri is one of the high spots of international tourism. Today we will visit the Blue Grotto before dinner and overnight in Naples.
Day 8: Palermo
This morning we will transfer to the airport for a short flight taking us to another island: Sicily. Upon our arrival in Palermo, we will be transferred to our hotel and enjoy our day at leisure. We will experience a Sicilian dinner tonight and overnight in Palermo.
Day 9: Palermo
Our guide will take us for a full day tour of Palermo. The capital and chief seaport of Sicily has much to offer. Built at the head of a wide bay and surrounded on three sides by the mountains of the Conca d'Oro (The Golden Valley) - the rising sun lights up the gold of the lemons, oranges and almonds. Our guide will take us through the city and we will see some of its highlights. You will see the Quattro Canti (this crossroad forms a fine early 17th century ensemble in the Spanish baroque style). You will pass by Piazza Pretoria and discover the spectacular fountain and its marble statues, and the cathedral. Dinner and overnight in Palermo.
Day 10: Island of Sicily
After Breakfast we will tour the island. We will see a variety of things, from the olive trees, to vineyards, to the high mountains and quaint towns. Despite its proximity to Italy, Sicily has had its own history, civilizations, Kings and language. The Sicilians and their customs are so distinct that mainland Italians speak of them as another race - as indeed the Sicilians consider themselves to be. Their blood is a mix of the Greeks, Carthaginians, Arabs and Normans who settled the island. Sicily is a colorful island that you are sure to love. Dinner and overnight in Palermo.
