LONDON, ENGLAND
Detailed Quality Tour

June 4 - 11, 2002

Day 1 DEPART USA FOR ENGLAND
Our adventure begins as we board our plane. Enjoy an in-flight meal and relax on our overnight flight to London.

Day 2 ARRIVAL IN LONDON
Welcome to England! Upon arrival at London-Heathrow, we are met by our guide and motorcoach. Before we arrive at our hotel, we'll commence on a half-day tour of the city's highlights. After check-in, the remainder of the day is at our leisure. Dinner is at our hotel.

Day 3 AT LEISURE
Enjoy the opportunity to explore this bustling city on your own. There certainly is no shortage of museums and historic sites in London. Naval buffs will benefit from an excursion to Greenwich, where one can view the Cutty Sark and Gipsy Moth IV clippers, as well as the Royal Naval College. Art lovers won't want to miss the National Gallery, which contains one of the most valuable collections in the world. Shoppers will enjoy a visit to Harrod's, the huge department store that was founded in 1849. It is actually the most visited attraction in the city. Dinner tonight is on our own.

Day 4 TOWER OF LONDON & WESTMINSTER ABBEY
A day of unforgettable sightseeing awaits us beginning with a visit to the foreboding Tower of London. Work on the Tower began in 1078 by orders of William the Conqueror. The tales of the Tower reflect the rich history of England. Aside from housing the Crown Jewels, the fortress contains a church, palace, artillery building and prison. Behind the Tower is one of the city's most photographed landmarks, the Tower Bridge. Following lunch (on our own), we proceed to the gothic church of Westminster Abbey. Founded by Edward the Confessor in 1065, almost every British monarch was crowned and buried here. The structure is also the final resting place of Livingstone, Browning and the Bronte sisters. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Dinner is on our own tonight.

Day 5 BLENHEIM PALACE
In 1705, Queen Anne granted John Churchill, the first Duke of Marlborough, the gift of Blenheim Palace. The queen was so grateful to Churchill for his battle victory against the French, she had the Palace built for him at her own expense. One of the most impressive features of the palace is the ceiling in the Great Hall, which depicts Churchill's victorious battle. We'll visit the Red Drawing Room, state-dining room, "Long Library" and staterooms. After our tour, we'll pay a somber visit to the burial place of Sir Winston Churchill at St. Martin's Church. We return to London where we'll have dinner on our own.

Day 6 WAR CABINET ROOMS & CHARTWELL HOUSE

During the Second World War, the Cabinet War Rooms served as a shelter for Churchill and his Chiefs of Staff to meet, sleep and live. We'll see the rooms almost exactly as they were during the war, including Churchill's Room, the Cabinet Room, the Map Room and the Transatlantic Telephone Room. Afterwards, we travel to Kent to Chartwell House, the family home of Sir Winston Churchill. Here the Prime Minister lived for more than 40 years. Today the rooms are as they were during Churchill's time. We'll see the museum and exhibit rooms, which display his uniforms, hats, letters, cigars and other mementoes. Outside, we'll stroll the rose garden, the lake, and water garden. Upon return to London, dinner is on our own.

Day 7 FREE DAY
Our last day in London is a free day. Why not visit two of England's most famous, royal residences - Hampton Court and Windsor Castle. Along with being one of the finest buildings in the UK, Hampton Court is still alive with truth and fiction that continues to fascinate its visitors. During the plague of 1665, Charles II and his court fled to Hampton Court until it was safe to once again enter the city. The palace houses an astronomical clock made for Henry VIII in 1540, a great hall filled with tapestries and fine gardens. Windsor Castle sits upon the great chalk cliffs overlooking the Thames. The castle has been hailed as one of the finest royal residences in the world. The little town of Windsor, with its half-timbered houses, old inns and cobbled streets, compliments the castle nicely. Tonight we'll enjoy a farewell dinner at our London hotel.
