Friday Departures

Day 1: Depart USA For China
Relax on an overnight flight to Beijing.

Day 2: Beijing
Upon arrival in Beijing we are met by our tour guide and transferred to our hotel. The remainder of the night is free to rest up for the exciting days of sightseeing ahead of us.

Day 3: Temple Of Heaven & The Hutong
This morning we'll visit the delicately crafted Temple of Heaven. The temple is considered to be one of the most beautiful examples of Oriental architecture in China. Former emperors used to pray in the temple for a good harvest. After lunch, we'll tour the Hutong (Chinese alleyways) aboard a pedicab through the narrow lanes of the old residential quarters. You will have the opportunity to take a glimpse of the local residents' daily life. You will also visit a school in Beijing. Tonight we enjoy an emperor's dinner banquet. Overnight in Beijing.

Day 4: Great Wall Of China
Built to defend China from the northern barbarians, the Great Wall follows a ridge of barren hills stretching as far as the eye can see - at least 3,750 miles! The wall is the only manmade structure that can be seen from the surface of the moon. After lunch we'll visit the Ming Tombs, the burial site of thirteen Ming emperors. Enjoy a delectable Peking duck for dinner at our hotel. Overnight in Beijing.

DAY 5: Summer Palace & Forbidden City
Nestled in a hilly, wooded setting on a splendid lake is the Summer Palace, the famous resort of Empress Dowager Ci Xi. Among its unusual attractions is a marble replica of a Mississippi riverboat built in 1888. Following lunch we journey to the walled, fourteenth century Forbidden City. This imperial palace of the emperors was so named because it was off limits to ordinary citizens. On its grounds are six palaces, 800 smaller buildings and 9,000 rooms. This evening we'll attend an acrobatic show. Dinner and overnight in Beijing.

Day 6: Xi'an
After breakfast we'll visit Tiananmen Square before boarding our flight to Xi'an (pronounced SHE-on). Xi'an is home to several important treasures. The city was the Chinese capital city for eleven dynasties. We'll visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Built in 625 AD, the pagoda is one of China's most famous and has a great view from the top. Tonight we enjoy a dumpling dinner banquet followed by an on-stage show of Tang Dynasty dance and music. Dinner and overnight in Xi'an.

Day 7: Terracotta Army
This morning we'll visit the Tomb of Emperor Shi Huang. Afterwards we'll see the 2,000 year old terracotta soldiers at the Qin Army Vault Museum. More than 8,000 life-size ceramic soldiers, chariots and horses were buried here to protect the tomb of the first Chinese emperor. The "army" is widely regarded as the eighth wonder of the world. This afternoon we pay a visit to Hua Qing Spring Pool, the favorite resort of the famous Lady Yang - one of the four great beauties in Chinese history. We'll also visit the Neolithic Banpo Village, a museum built on the 6,000 year old actual site. Dinner and overnight in Xi'an.

Day 8: Yangtze River Cruise
We begin our day with a visit to the Shaanxi Provincial Museum of History. Afterwards we board our flight to Chongqing. We then transfer to a small pea-boat for Shennong Stream Drifting to experience the breathtaking scenery. We resume our sail through the last gorge, the Wuhan (considered to be the most impressive of the three). Experience the majestic cliffs rising 1,000 feet from the river. Pass through the last gorge- Xiling Gorge to arrive in San Dou Ping in time for dinner and overnight on board our ship.
