Day One: Depart
US
Late this afternoon; we depart Newark or Philadelphia for our
overnight flight to Athens, Greece. Sit back, relax, and enjoy your
flight with arrival in Athens tomorrow afternoon.
Day Two: Arrive in Palace/Athens
Upon our arrival in Athens we will meet our Greek guide and transfer
to the Divani Acropolis Palace Hotel, which will be our home for the
entire trip. The Divani Acropolis Palace is centrally located near
the Acropolis and the Plaka in Athens. The remainder of our day will
be free for our leisure. We will meet this evening for a welcome
dinner and orientation meeting
Day Three: Tour of Athens/Free Afternoon
After breakfast we will enjoy a morning city tour of Athens. This
tour gives you an opportunity to observe the striking contrasts that
make Athens such a fascinating city. Our expert guide will take you
to see the city center, Constitution Square (Syntagma), the House of
Parliament, the memorial to the Unknown Soldier and the National
Library. Driving down Herod Atticus Street, you will see the Evzones
in their picturesque uniform and the Presidential Palace. On your
way to the Acropolis, you will see the Panathenaic stadium (where
the first Olympic Games of the modern era were held in 1896), the
Temple of Olympian Zeus and Hadrian's Arch. Our tour will conclude
with a visit to the Acropolis where we will see the Propylae, the
Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion and the Parthenon. This
afternoon will be at leisure to explore Athens on our own.
Day Four: Optional Delphi Tour/ Free Day
After breakfast those interested can opt for a full day tour of
Delphi. Delphi is known to be the center of the ancient world - the
"Omphalos". While in Delphi we will walk the slopes of Mount
Parnassus, view the ruins of the Sanctuary of Apollo Pythios, the
treasury of the Athenians, and the Temple of Apollo before heading
back to Athens late this afternoon.
Day Five: Optional Three Island Cruise/
Free Day
Take part in a full day Greek Isle cruise or visit Athens on your
own. For those who take the cruise, we depart early for a visit to
the islands of Hydra, Poros and Aegina where each small island is
unique and picturesque. Lunch is served on board as we sail along
the Peleponnesian Coast.
Day Six: Optional Ancient Mycenae and
Epidaurus Tour/ Free Day
After breakfast those interested can opt for a full day tour of
Mycenae and Epidaurus. Mycenae, the Homeric city of the Atreides
offers a visit to the Lion's gate, the Cyclopean Walls, and the
Royal Tombs. We visit the picturesque town nestled at the foot of a
cliff of Nafplion en route to Epidaurus where we will visit the 4th
century theater famous for its astonishing acoustics.
Day Seven: Optional Cape Sounion/Free Day
This morning, you may opt to travel along a coastal road to Cape
Sounion. We will travel past some beautiful beaches & tour the
famous Temple of Poseidon. We will meet as a group this evening for
a farewell dinner at the Plaka. Our special dinner will include
Folklore, dancing and music
Day
Eight: Return to US
After an early breakfast we will depart our hotel and transfer to
the airport. We will arrive in the US later today.
