Tour
Day 1: Overnight
Flight
Depart from our home airport, for a flight to Casablanca.
Day 2: Casablanca-Rabat
It's time
to embark on an adventure of discovery in the enchanting land of
Morocco. We arrive at the Mohammed V airport where our guide will
welcome us and escort us on a delightful tour of the fabled Casablanca,
Africa's second largest city. Sights include the Mohammed V Square,
Central Market, Habous, Ain Diab, and the splendid Hassan II Mosque. We
continue on to Rabat, Morocco's capital and imperial city, for an
afternoon tour of the Hassan Tower, Mohammed V Mausoleum, and the
ramparts of the Mechouar surrounding the Royal Palace before settling in
at our hotel for the evening.
Day 3: Rabat/Meknes/Fez
After
breakfast, we travel to Meknes, chosen by Sultan Moulay Ismail as his
imperial capital at the end of the 17th century, and known for its 20
gates, more than 50 palaces, and 15 miles of surrounding walls. Here we
visit the Bab El Mansour, the Jewish quarter, the royal stables and the
tombs of Moulay Ismail. From there it's on to the beautiful city of Fes,
Morocco's religious center. Founded in 790 A.D., this ancient Imperial
City will dazzle you with its visual details, haunting sounds and rich
aromas. Among the sites are the medieval Medina, the elaborate
Karaouiyne Mosque and the colorful Nejjarine Fountain.
Day 4: Fez-Mouzzer du
Knadar-Azrou-Erfoud
Another full day of adventure and exploring takes us through the
spectacular Atlas Mountains to Erfoud. Passing through the Berber
villages, Imozar de Kandar, and Ifrane, we stop in Azrou, an important
handicraft center. After lunch in Midelt, we continue on to modern,
urban Arrachidia and visit the Blue Spring of Meski, followed by dinner
and overnight stay in Erfoud.
Day 5: Erfoud/Ouarzazate
Awake
before dawn for a jeep tour to see the spectacular desert sunrise over
the Dunes of Merzouga. After breakfast in the hotel, we travel along the
Tinjdad Road, past magnificent kasbahs and palm groves, to Tinerhir, the
former French Foreign Legion Post. Visit the famous todra canyons,
towering rock walls as high as 1,000 feet. After lunch we travel
"The Trail of 1000 Kasbahs" through the Dades Valley to the
rose-growing town of El Kelaa des M'Gouna. Our day's journey ends in the
town of Ouarzazate, perched high on the edge of the Atlas Mountains,
where we will dine and spend the night.
Day 6: Ouarzazate/Marrakech
Our
sightseeing today begins with a visit to the fortified village of Ait
Benhaddou, where we view the best preserved kasbah of Morocco. We
continue along the Tizi N'Tichka pass across the High Atlas to
Marrakech, "The Red Pearl of the South" and the greatest of
the Imperial Cities. Our midday arrival will allow for afternoon
shopping in the city's famous souks(marketplaces) and the huge Djemaa El
Fna Square with its exotic story-tellers, fire-eaters, acrobats,
peddlers and much more.
