Dear Friends,
Joy and I would like to invite you to join us on
an eleven day tour of Ireland and Scotland. As many of you
know, we served with Biblical Ministries Worldwide for 12 years
in Scotland. We welcome the opportunity to share with you the
special places we have found as well as introduce you to our
insight into the modern missionary movement. You can expect a
wonderful time of fellowship and daily devotionals.

Day 1 -
Depart from US
Flight to Shannon.
Day 2 - Cliffs of Moher, Limerick/Adare,
Killarney
Meet our Driver/Guide in the Arrivals Hall at Shannon Airport. From
there, we depart for the Atlantic west coast of Clare to see the
dramatic 650ft Cliffs of Moher, one of the most outstanding coastal
features in the world. Depart for Killarney via Limerick, visiting
the beautiful thatched village of Adare. Adare village has a rich
wealth of heritage, as well as architectural and scenic beauty.
There are two groups of world famous ornate thatched cottages that
line part off the village’s broad main street, punctuated with
beautiful stone buildings, medieval monasteries and ruins. We
continue on to Killarney, where we will have dinner & overnight two
nights.
Day 3 - Killarney, Muckross, Ring of Kerry
Touring
Afternoon visit to Muckross House & Gardens, a Victorian mansion
built in 1843 in Elizabethan style. Inside, the elegant rooms are
decorated with period furnishings. There is also a museum of Kerry
Life. We then tour the Ring of Kerry via Moll’s Gap, Ladies View and
along the Lakes of Killarney to Killarney town before travelling on
via Killorglin, Glenbeigh, Cahersiveen, and Waterville. Next we
visit Coomakesta Pass with it magnificent views over Derrynane (home
of Daniel O’ Connell known as “The Liberator”), Castlecove & Sneem,
Moll’s Gap, Ladies View, Killarney National Park and along the Lakes
of Killarney. This evening we will enjoy a visit with a local
mission team during dinner.
Day 4 - Blarney Castle, Rock of Cashel,
Cork
Depart for Dublin via Cork & Tipperary. Pass over the Cork/Kerry
Mountains via the Irish speaking villages of Ballymakeery &
Ballyvourney to the old market town of Macroom, where you will pass
by Macroom Castle, once home of Sir William Penn, whose son was
later to found the state of Pennsylvania. Visit Blarney Castle and
enjoy an opportunity for shopping at Blarney Woollen Mills. Visit
the site of St. Patrick's cross and Rock of Cashel, once the seat of
kings and mediaeval bishops for 900 years and flourished until the
early 17th century. Brian Ború was crowned King of Munster here in
977 and he became High King of Ireland in 1002. Our lodging this
evening will be in the charming village of Cork.
Day 5 - Waterford Crystal, Dublin
Sightseeing
This morning we visit
Waterford - for a tour of the famous crystal factory.
This afternoon, enjoy a
guided tour of Dublin including visits to St. Patrick's Cathedral,
Christ Church Cathedral (where the remains of the Anglo-Norman
conqueror of Dublin, Strongbow are buried), and Trinity College,
home to the Book of Kells. Our lodging and dinner this evening will
be in Dublin.
Day 6 - Stirling Castle, Edinburgh
Transfer to Dublin Airport for a morning flight to Scotland and a
visit to famous Stirling Castle. We visit this impressive Castle
atop a volcanic outcrop, where Mary was crowned Queen of Scots.
Situated atop the Castle Hill, Stirling is surrounded on three sides
by steep cliffs, making it easily defensible. This fact, and its
strategic position, have made it an important fortification from the
earliest times. We spend the next two nights in Edinburgh.
This evening we will enjoy a visit with a local mission team during
dinner.
Day 7 - Edinburgh
Attend church at Carrubbers Christian Centre (where Dave served as
Director for some years). We have afternoon sightseeing with a local
expert who introduces you to the 200-year-old “New Town” and famous
scientists, inventors and novelists. In the “Old Town”, drive up the
narrow Royal Mile to Edinburgh Castle to admire Scotland’s Crown
Jewels, then explore Holyrood Palace, the Queen’s official Scottish
residence.
Day 8 - Highlands, Blair Castle, Fort
William
We travel northward through scenic countryside to Blair Castle. This
rambling, turreted castle has been altered and extended so often in
its 700-year history it portrays a perfect example of Scottish
aristocratic life. We then set off north, winding through the
Highland’s many gorges. Our tour of spectacular scenery ends in the
shadow of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Britain, at the
charming lake-side village of Fort William for a two night stay.
Day 9 - Loch Ness, Fort William
This morning we begin as investigators as we take a lake cruise in
our search for the Loch Ness Monster. If we are unsuccessful in our
sighting, our visit to the Loch Ness Monster Museum provides
photographic evidence to challenge the skeptics. Afterwards we spend
the remainder of the afternoon walking Fort William’s High Street,
with a wealth of cafes and charming shops.
Day 10 - Glencoe, Highlands, Glasgow
We begin by visiting scenic Glencoe, one of the sights of the
Massacre of Glencoe. In the early morning of February 13, 1692, the
massacre began simultaneously in three settlements along the glen on
the grounds that the MacDonald Clan had not been prompt in pledging
allegiance to the new king, William of Orange. Another forty women
and children died of exposure after their homes were burned. We
continue through the historic Trossachs, where the rugged scenery
inspired Sir Walter Scott to write “The Lady of the Lake” and also
provided the setting for the bandit hero, Rob Roy. The highlight
this afternoon will be a visit to the
David
Livingstone Centre - Birthplace museum
of Scotland’s greatest missionary-explorer, set in 20 acres of
parkland and woodland garden.
Our dinner and local mission
presentation will be in Glasgow, the largest city in Scotland and
third largest in the UK. Following dinner we take a short
flight and overnight in Dublin.
Day 11 - Home
We embark on our return flight to the US.
